Ocean Viking drills off Norway
14th July 1967 Ocean Viking spudded its first well on the Norwegian continental shelf in 67 metres of water, and drilled to a maximum depth of about 3 000 metres.
Phillips drilled two wells in the same block during 1967, one in August and the other in September. But all were dry.
When it was awarded its three licences, the Phillips group had undertaken to drill five wells in different structures – including at least one in blocks covered by each licence – over six years. Seismic surveys were also to be conducted in the same period.
