The second major oil crisis

A global oil crisis struck as a result of the Iranian revolution, when the pro-US Shah was overthrown by Muslim cleric Ayatollah Khomeini. The latter became Iran’s leader on 11 February 1979.

One consequence was large-scale hoarding of oil, and the outbreak of war between Iran and Iraq in 1980 extended the crisis. Crude prices trebled and Norway, as a petroleum exporter, benefitted greatly.

Dave Taylor from Hull in England was a Crane Operator on Ekofisk Alpha 2/4 A when the fire occurred on the platform November 1st, 1975. He was 27 years at that time. Here is his story from the tragic accident when three men died:

7/11 A ble installert i 1975 og produksjonen startet i 1977. Borerigg med utstyr ble fjernet i oktober 1997. Plattformen ble stengt og fraflyttet i 1998.
