Coordinating maritime traffic from land

This facility is one of a number of centres for integrated operations which have been built up by the operator at its shore base. 

The maritime part of the OLC had initially begun in 2004 with ordinary daytime working, focused on planning vessel dispatch and coordinating cargo from land. 

This expanded in 2007 to cover daytime coordination of loading and vessels offshore on weekdays, and the next step was full round-the-clock operation. 

The latter change called for new shift plans, recruitment of more personnel, conversion of buildings, and provision of technical facilities. 

Paal Bjåstad, head of marine logistics at ConocoPhillips, was pleased about the collaboration with the radar service on Ekofisk as a good source of support. 

Round-the-clock backing and good communication were important for the safety of maritime traffic to and from the Greater Ekofisk Area.
